Simple protein and nutrition boost at home

If someone has a poor appetite or unintentional weight loss, soup can be a great option to get the nutrition you need. By adding a few simple ingredients, it can become far more calorie and protein‑dense without increasing portion size.

Ingredients

1/2 tin of vegetable soup

2 tbsp skimmed milk powder

2 tbsp double cream

 

Recipe

Warm the soup

Warm half a tin of soup in a pan, stirring occasionally.

Add skimmed milk powder

Add the skimmed milk powder and mix it well, making sure it is dissolved.

Add double cream

Add the double cream and mix well.

Serve

Once all ingredients are mixed well, pour the soup into a bowl.

Caryn Straker

Caryn studied for a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, qualifying in 1997. She has worked as a dietitian in both South Africa and the UK since 2000, gaining experience in hospitals, the community and private practice. Since 2013, she has focused her practice in care homes, using her expertise to enhance the well-being of residents. Here she supports placements for dietetic students from London Metropolitan University as well as regularly lecturing at University Collage London on both care home nutrition and nutrition in palliative care.
