Fortified oats

Nutrition boost for reduced appetite

In this video, we show you how to make nutritious porridge oats using fortified milk, skimmed milk powder and high‑energy toppings like peanut butter and banana. This is an ideal breakfast for people with low appetite, unintentional weight loss, recovery from illness or increased nutritional needs.

To know how to make fortified milk, watch here.

Ingredients

40g Oats

300ml Whole Milk

1 tbsp Skimmed Milk Powder

1 tsp Peanut Butter

1/2 Banana

Recipe

Mix the oats

Start by mixing the oats with 1 tbsp of skimmed milk powder. Stir it to mix it in.

Tip: use fortified milk

You can use premixed fortified milk instead of adding powder to the oats.

Add the whole milk

Add the whole milk and stir it again.

Alternative: microwave

Instead of a stove, you can use a microwave. It would take about 2 and 1/2 minutes. Make sure it does not boil.

Serve

When the oats have thickened, transfer them to a bowl.

Toppings

Make it more nutritious by adding toppings. Use whatever you like, such as banana and peanut butter, strawberries and cream, or apple purée with cinnamon.
