Getting on and off the toilet

Using the toilet is a routine part of our day, but it's important to do it safely to avoid any potential injury. In this video, we'll demonstrate the proper technique for getting on and off the toilet smoothly, ensuring you can do so with confidence.

Turn around to stand with your back to the toilet.

Set your feet hip width apart.

Slowly move backward until you can feel the seat on the backs of your legs.

Pull down your clothes and underwear.

Place your hands on your thighs for support, hinge forward from your hips to send your nose over your toes.

Bend your knees and move your hips backwards towards the rare of the toilet, slowly lowering yourself.

After personal hygiene, gather your clothing and underwear and bring them up just over your knees.

Place your feet parallel, hip with apart and slightly behind your knees.

Place your hands on your knees holding your clothes in place.

Lean forward bringing your chin just past your toes.

Keeping your nose over your toes, press into the ground with your feet and push your self to standing making sure to keep hold of your clothing.

Pull up your underwear and any clothing.

Passionate about improving mobility, reducing pain, and enhancing patients’ quality of life, Bansari also actively promotes fall prevention and therapy services within care home settings.

Vanessa Marques

 

Vanessa graduated from London South Bank University in 2022 with a Postgraduate Degree in Occupational Therapy. She brings a wealth of experience having worked with both children and adults in the NHS and various charity organisations, which include settings specialised in learning disabilities and palliative care. Vanessa has worked within the Therapy Team at Nightingale Hammerson since 2022, supporting residents through personalised therapeutic interventions to enhance independence, well-being and improve quality of life. Vanessa enjoys enabling residents to engage and participate in their meaningful activities and tasks, as well as supporting the learning and development of team members within the organisation.
