I started my nursing career in Guyana at the age of seventeen, and qualified as a registered nurse in 2002. I arrived in the UK in 2006 and began working in a care home in South Wales, as a Nurse. In 2012, I joined Nightingale House as a Household Manager on Wohl. I moved to Hammerson House as a Registered Manager until it was closed for refurbishment.
In 2020, I returned to Nightingale House as a Care Quality Improvement Lead and was part of the recommission team of Hammerson House. In April 2021 the role of Deputy Director of Care/Registered Manager for Hammerson House become available. I applied and was appointed. Opening Hammerson House was extremely important to me. I have been in my current role since 2021 and my greatest joy is seeing the Residents live a happy and fulfilled life in their new Home, knowing that this could be one of the last memories they may have.
My main goals are to create an environment where team members feel valued and treated respectfully, develop a culture of equality and diversity, whilst embedding the shared values of the organisation. As a Manager, I have an open-door policy, I offer more than clinical and professional support. It is a privilege to listen to the concerns of the Team, offer emotional and psychological support or just be that listening ear. They know that I am there for them. I want to be the person they always feel comfortable approaching. This is my family.
