Widgets on your Android

Widgets are small tools you can add to your home screen so you can see useful information at a glance without opening an app. This can be especially helpful if you sometimes forget appointments or tasks, as everything is right in front of you when you pick up your phone.

Once you have unlocked your device, press and hold down any empty space on the home screen.

A menu will pop up at the bottom of the screen, tap on ‘Widgets’.

This opens the widget list. You can scroll down or use the search bar to look for 'Reminder'. It may say 'Tasks' or 'Google tasks' if you use Google. Once you find it, tap on it.

A drop-down menu will appear on the screen, allowing you to choose the widget type. You can display either all reminders or selected reminders. We suggest you select all reminders.

Tap the one you want. It should turn grey and show you an option to 'Add' on top. Press to add widget to your home screen.

Depending on your phone, you can resize the widget by dragging its edges.

Now let’s set up the calendar widget. Go back to the widget menu using the same steps as before. Then, scroll or search for ‘Calendar’ and tap it for the drop-down bar.

You will see different types of calendars. Some show a daily view, others a monthly view and upcoming events.

Tap the one you want. It should turn grey and show you an option to 'Add' on top. Press to add widget to your home screen.

Depending on your phone, you can resize the widget. When you're done, tap anywhere on your screen to exit the editing section.

Her work has given her a real understanding of the challenges people face when learning new skills later in life, and she enjoys finding simple, practical ways to make technology feel less daunting.

She has created and delivered workshops on topics such as smartphone use, online safety, and everyday digital tools, always adapting her approach to suit different abilities and learning styles. Charley joined JC Explore in 2024, bringing with her a patient, approachable teaching style and a passion for making technology accessible to everyone.

Max Bianconi

Max has worked in the health and social care setting for the past twenty years, gaining extensive experience in supporting individuals and groups in residential and community settings across various roles.
Currently, Max manages JC Explore, a service that provides digital skills training for everyday life using mainstream and assistive technology. In addition to his role, Max serves as a trustee at the Karten Network, a charity dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and independence of adults with congenital or acquired physical, cognitive, sensory, learning disabilities, or mental health issues through a network of IT centres.
Max is passionate about assistive technology and its impact on people’s lives. He believes that promoting independence and social inclusion leads individuals to a more meaningful life.
