“I am not from a wealthy family. My parents lost everything in Iraq. In 1948, when I was just a year old, my mother and I travelled to Manchester to visit my father, who was studying medicine. While we were there, the political situation in Iraq changed and Jews were no longer safe. We never went back.
I grew up in Grimsby, studied French at Sheffield University and later taught the language in Basingstoke. Six years ago, I had a stroke and could no longer live alone. When I first walked into Hammerson House, I thought: ‘This looks like a hotel!’ Now, I take part in bowling, flower arranging, shared reading, French conversation, art appreciation and so much more. I keep busy, my room is homely and I am surrounded by kindness.
I feel extremely well cared for here and we are very lucky to have such dedicated managers and team members. I feel truly blessed to call Hammerson House my home.”
