“It was such a privilege to run the London Marathon for Nightingale Hammerson this year. My grandmother spent her final years in Nightingale Hammerson homes. She moved in shortly after my grandfather, to whom she’d been married for over 70 years, passed away.

Under their care, she enjoyed a new chapter in her life, with company and enriching activities to fill her days. Once her health deteriorated, the team was there to care for her and tend to her complex needs.

London 2022 was my first marathon and despite my nerves, and the gruelling training and preparation, I was determined not to let the Nightingale Hammerson team down. The Friday evening before the run, I visited Hammerson House, Wohl Campus to light Shabbat candles together with some residents and staff, who were hugely encouraging.

Knowing that the money my run was raising was going towards enabling Nightingale Hammerson to maintain their outstanding care of our elderly community spurred me on reach my target and run through the difficult times.

Running a marathon is an ambition I have held for many years, and one that I didn’t believe I would ever realise. Volunteering to run for Nightingale Hammerson changed that and gave me the motivation and determination to persevere with the challenge.

I am delighted to say that I exceeded my fundraising target, raising a total of £1,852! People in my network really appreciated supporting me in my efforts to raise money for a small charity that relies on the income that the marathon generates.

I would recommend anyone that has even the slightest running capability to take their marathon journey with Nightingale Hammerson. Not only will you make a huge difference to the lives of elderly and vulnerable people in our community, and their loved ones, but you will have the backing of the most supportive and encouraging team imaginable.” – Dalya
